Human Footprint – Human Activity in Satellite Imagery

Beautiful and vulnerable: From the perspective of satellites, the Earth reveals itself in breathtaking images. Delicate river deltas that look like artistic paintings, glowing desert landscapes, and rainforests resembling green carpets. At the same time, the traces of human activity on the Earth’s surface are becoming increasingly visible: settlements, megacities, resource extraction, agriculture, transport, energy, and tourism – our lives and actions crucially shape the face of our planet. Around 50 high-resolution satellite images from the Salzburg-based company eoVision document in a unique and aesthetically appealing way how profoundly we shape and alter our ecosystems. Without wagging a finger, the exhibition, developed in cooperation with the Haus der Natur Salzburg, masterfully balances aesthetics and education. We invite you to wonder, reflect, and understand.

In cooperation with the city archive, the exhibition is complemented by a series of historical aerial photographs of Bielefeld. The constantly changing land use and the ‚human footprint‘ are also unmistakable in Bielefeld.
